Curriculum

¨ Freshman Korean: The purpose of the course is to familiarize students with pronunciation of Korean alphabet, basic structure of Korean vocabulary. Korean folk custom and general knowledge about Korean custom area also included. Students will be asked to practice reading and explaining the meaning of the text.

¨ Sophomore Korean: The course is to make students understand how to make correct sentences, Korean syntax structure, the difference between Chinese character and pure Korean language.

¨ Junior Korean: By analyzing the syntax of the articles downloaded from the web sites of Korean editorial column, students could be familiar Korean language expressions and idioms.

¨ Senior Korean: Students are asked to read the articles selected from few kinds of newspaper and magazines to get to know new words and special sentence structure from them.

¨ Korean Comprehension Class I: The course will start by practicing sending regards to people, conversation in daily life and in special occasions. Complex sentences will be practiced repeatedly be listening and speaking.

¨ Korean Comprehension Class II: In the class, students will practice using all kinds of Korean phrases, idioms, sentence patterns, and will learn to use polysemy and--- in the dialogue which students make.

¨ Korean Comprehension Class III: The course is designed to introduce daily conversation Korean people would have in eating, clothing, living, traveling, educating, and entertaining, etc. When it comes to any kinds of occasions, students would know how to deal with it and what to say.

¨ Korean Comprehension Class IV: The course is designed to introduce daily conversation Korean people would have in eating, clothing, living, traveling, educating, and entertaining, etc. When it comes to any kinds of occasions, students would know how to deal with it and what to say.

¨ Korean Lab Course I: The course is mainly listening training course. The course will be taken in the laboratory classroom to play tapes recorded by native speakers. Then students could repeat and record at the same time to make compare and contrast of their own.

¨ Korean Lab Course II: The course is mainly listening training course. The course will be taken in the laboratory classroom to play tapes recorded by native speakers. Then students could repeat and record at the same time to make compare and contrast of their own.

¨ Korean Lab Course III: Videotapes are used as teaching material to practice listening ability and comprehension ability. Dialog will be repeated and explained to make students understand the usage.

¨ Korean Lab Course IV: The course is mainly listening training course. The course will be taken in the laboratory classroom to play tapes recorded by native speakers. Then students could repeat and record at the same time to make compare and contrast of their own.

¨ Linguistics: In this course, students are able to learn the rules in all kinds of Korean linguistic phenomenon like syntax, phonology, semantics, pragmatics. Teachers will make whole sentences to make examples for students to learn the right way to speak and write Korean.

¨ History of Korea: Introduction to the history of Korean peninsula and the anecdote ever happened there to let students acquaint themselves with the Korean history and places of historic interests.

¨ Interpretation: Novels based on the lives in college, in business, in daily life will be the text in the course. Students will be asked to read the novels and interpret them into Chinese during the class.

¨ Select Reading of Korean Famous Works: Students will read some Korean famous works, and write down their reflections about them.

¨ Korean Cultural Background: The course is to introduce Korean custom, language, literature, art, science, ideology, religion, technology, politics, economics, cultural movement, etc, to let students would get to know the words usage, the local conditions and customs, and general affairs.

¨ Phonology: Phonology is one part of linguistics. The rule of the phonology will be introduced in the course, especially the rules in pronunciation. Learners who first learn to pronounce Korean will set the foundation in studying Korean.

¨ Practical Korean I: Applied sentence patterns will be emphasized in this course by practicing dialog.

¨ Practical Korean II: Applied sentence patterns will be emphasized in this course by practicing dialog.

¨ Business Korean: Articles and reports from latest newspaper and magazines will be selected to be teaching materials for students to acquaint the usage or the style of writing, and to comprehend the current events and the state of Korea.

¨ Korean Composition: Practical writings including writing a letter is taught in the course. Students are expected to express themselves well in writing Korean.

¨ North Korean Language Studies: Students will learn to make the contrast with the difference in South and North Korea through reading and understanding materials about North Korea.

¨ North Korean Studies: In order to understand the current situation in North Korea, students will study the situation of the society, politics, culture, education, economics, military affairs, diplomacy etc. in North Korea.

¨ Korean Proverb: Proverbs are the best part of the language and the accumulation of the life experiences. By learning the proverbs of Korean, students will get deeper understanding of the ideology, value, and people’s philosophy toward life.

¨ Conversation Practice: This is the course that goes with lab course.

¨ Basic Linguistics: This is one of the freshmen courses introduce to basic knowledge and basic sentence patterns.

¨ Tourism Korean: The purpose of this course is to develop the ability for sightseeing and for guiding travels in Taiwan.

¨ Korean Political Situation Studies: Introductions to the development of political situation in North and South Korea and the current situation.

¨ Korean Folklore: Introductions to the customs, popular arts, and popular games in Korean people.
